I joined the Mentos Fresh Geyser Video Contest!

I haven't been blogging lately because of the work load I should prioritize. Anyway, I was still able to submit my entry to the Mentos Fresh Geyser - Fact or Fake Video Contest.

I wish I could have thought of a better concept for my entry because there are a lot of worthy entries who can possibly win in the overall impact criteria.

Here is my video uploaded on Youtube...

Please vote for my entry! Voting is 30% of the criteria for overall impact.

1) Go to Mentos Fresh Geyser on Facebook.
2) Click on The "Mentos Fact or Fake" Tab
3) Register on the "Fact or Fake" Application
4) Please vote for my entry...

My entry kinda looks like a rip-off from an old Mentos commercial, down to that LSS-inducing Mentos Freshness song. After finishing the video editing, the song just sticks to my head, like the Mentos candy on my fingers when wet (hehehe).

Like I mentioned in my previous blogs, somehow contests give me some kind of drive to learn new stuff like video editing. Although, not the best video editor to date, hopefully I can master more of the application's functions as I join more contests.

And hopefully my entry will win this contest!

Deadline of this contest is tomorrow - October 28, 2010!

The Social Network - Advanced Screening at the Greenbelt 3

This evening, I was able to watch the advanced screening of The Social Network at the Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1. For those who don't have an idea what the story is all about, The Social Network is about the true-to-life story of Mark Zuckerberg, and how he started Facebook.

Before the show started, PLDT and Nuffnang Philippines awarded the winner of the Blog contest. Aside from awarding the movie invites to the 1st 90 bloggers, the best post wins a PLDT modem and wifi. The topic was about my analogy of Social Network is to Facebook as PLDT myDSL Modem + WiFi is to ...

and I answered family...

Lo and behold! I was chosen as the winner of this contest! Thanks PLDT and Nuffnang Philippines for awarding me this prize. Check out my contest entry here...

my prize - a PLDT modem+wifi device. I have yet to open it probably tomorrow...

I already mentioned to my mom that I won the contest, and we're happy we received this gift from PLDT and Nuffnang.

Anyways, back to the topic on The Social Network movie.

For starters, the movie is meant to be watched by a more mature audience. A lot of scenes deal with lifestyles of a typical college student in the U.S., filled with lots of wild parties, booze and sex (but the sex part isn't explicitly shown in the movie).

As the movie unfolds, two stories alternate in the narrative - the present where Mark Zuckerberg confronts his former colleagues/friends in a trial hearing on the ownership of Facebook, and the past, where the movie narrates Mark's dealings with his friends, and how he started Facebook during his college years in Harvard.

So as not to spoil the movie, I will not reveal everything here. But I would like to mention that the story is quite entertaining specially if you are familiar with Facebook. The movie tries to explain where Mark got the ideas incorporated into Facebook like the Facebook status where he mentioned "nobody in his right mind would wear a tag telling others what he's doing" (except he made it possible in FB now), and the funny "pop" sound when you receive a chat message.

Lessons can be learned from the story, specially about what weighs more - friendship or financial success. Overall, the movie played out well, but I also have reservations on how the movie could have been made better. Also, I think I read a blog post that not all the details are true, even the real Mark Zuckerberg says it's a work of fiction. Still, it was enjoyable to say the least. I give the movie a 3.5 out of 5.

Thanks again Nuffnang and PLDT for the movie invites and my contest prize.

:)

Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL Special Screening

Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL will be having a special screening for The Social Network Movie on October 19, 2010, 6:25PM at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1. This is exclusive for all Nuffnangers only!

The first NINETY (90) VALID NUFFNANG BLOGGERS who join will get free invites. To be able to get invites, all I have to do answer the following question:

The Social Network is to Facebook, as PLDT myDSL modem+wifi is to ...

But before anything else, here are some of the features of PLDT myDSL.

What I love about the PLDT myDSL package is that it is bundled with many features and affordable at the same time!

And now back to the question.

The Social Network is to Facebook, as PLDT myDSL modem+wifi is to ...

and my answer is...

family.

Why so?

It is because PLDT myDSL is equipped with so many features (like the wifi and 4-port hub), it allows the whole family to enjoy internet connection all at the same time. Features the family can enjoy includes availing of the PLDT Watchpad, where the whole family can enjoy movies and TV shows provided by myDSL, or play video games online with your siblings.

Plus, you'll never have to miss them if you are far from home. PLDT myDSL connects you with your loved ones anywhere you go!

Here is my skit about the PLDT myDSL and Watchpad. I made this video before with the help of my family. Although I intended it as a comedy skit, it still shows that technology like myDSL allows family members to communicate and share a common interest with one another.

That is why I can say that PLDT myDSL is synonymous to family bonding.

Castle of Sand

"Castle of Sand" by rdnofera

I always wanted to build, to create.
A little kid back then,
I ardently wished I could form
a castle made of sand.
Seeing older kids make one
made me think I can.

I asked mom if I could do it,
And she gladly showed me how.
It seemed all to easy at first
until I tried it out.
How heavy it was sculpting the sand,
all I managed was a mound.

Without much form still I was glad,
I made a mound so high!
But soon alas tides came rushing in.
And washed away my pride.
I tried so hard to shape it back
but to no avail.

Tears flowed as I watched in gloom,
my work gone so soon.
But mother told me not to weep
...because I haven't lost it all!
My castle is gone, but I am not,
and I still have her too.

No matter how hard the task,
no matter how great the tides,
as long as I don't lose myself,
as long as I know I am not alone,
I will give my all!
Soon, mine will be whole again.

The author (me namely) of this free verse has won several noteworthy contests in the past. Some of which include the Cadbury Art of Happiness in 2008 - 1st place, Cadbury Pure Happiness Festival Art Contest in 2009 - 2nd place, digital art like the LG Grab the Cookie contest in 2009, and photo contests like the Chowking Photo Contest in 2008. His most recent contest winnings related to visual arts for this year include winning the Yahoo meme week 5 contest and the Western Digital Father's day contest.

Although I wrote this like a poem, this is the story I want to share. It was my experience during my childhood years. I was around 4 back then. Making sand castles was fun and challenging but it also taught me a lot of lessons - like nothing lasts forever, and as long as we keep on believing in ourselves, and with the help of people around us, like family and friends, we will be able to restore what we lost, and probably make something much better. It applies not just to sand castles, but to life as well.

This is my entry to Share Your Winning Story and Win! contest from Winners Place. Deadline is on October 14, 2010.

Slow Melting In Progress...

Whew! Just finished another day at the office. How I wish I could clear my mind of all that stress from work! Six days a week, day-in and day-out, it's the same routine! If only there was an easy way to relax...

What if I tried something new? Maybe try a new ice cream flavor perhaps?

So one day I found myself trying out the new flavor from Haagen-Dazs called Caramel Biscuit and Cream. Hopefully, this new treat could help me ease my mind off my dull, boring routine.

To make enjoying worthwhile, I thought of using some more biscuits along with my new discovery...

After arriving home, I prepared for my slow melting process. I tried to think of ways of enjoying my ice cream along with my biscuits. Simply dipping them wasn't enough.

So I thought of mixing them and doing arrangements, kinda like a wannabe pastry chef.

“Do not disturb. Slow melting in progress.” I hope no one disturbs my relaxation time...

And as I put my own ingredients, I imagined what I always wanted in life...

I want to have my own house...

I want to have my own car...

And as I finish every arrangement, I would imagine I can reeeeaaally have them as I ate my creation...

But I also wished I can do more! I wish I could travel overseas...

or go to beaches and tourist spots I haven't been to before...
and as I go along the things I always wanted to do, somehow I felt there was something missing...

OOPS!

How can I forget? No matter how much I want something in life, I can never fully enjoy them all without a friend.

Without the company of others, life just melts away without meaning.
:)

This is my entry to the Haagen-Dazs Melting Me Slowly blog contest. For more information about this contest, visit the Nuffnang Philippines contest page. To get to know more about the new Haagen-Dazs Caramel Biscuit & Cream, visit the Haagen-Dazs Philippines website.

NomNom Club's celebration at Angel's Pizza

I was invited by Sir Jonel Uy to celebrate NomNom Club's victory as one of the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2010. The venue was Angel's Pizza near Makati Avenue corner Jupiter Street around 7 pm last night.

Angel's Pizza in Makati Ave near Jupiter Street

This was just the second time I attended a bloggers' get-together. The first one I attended was at the awarding of winners for the Century Tuna Fillet blog contest (bloggers' event) held almost a year back.

Together with my gf, we attended NomNom's gathering. We arrived 20 minutes late because I couldn't find the venue immediately after we arrived at Makati Ave. cor Jupiter. I thought the vendors and security guards around the area knew where to find this restaurant, and it seems most of them don't even have a clue! Finally, we found someone to point us at the right direction.

Well, at least now I know Angel's Pizza is around 50 steps away along Makati Avenue on the Jollibee side. Since this is a new establishment, only few people here know of its location.

As I mentioned in some of my blogs, joining contests is a great way of making friends online. I was able to meet Sir Florencio Jusay of ManualToLyf and Sir Pepi De Leon of Kampeon ng Pag-Ibig who won 2nd runner-up in Let's Go Sago "Why Travel?" blog contest I joined a while back. Also present was Sir Fitz Villafuerte of Thirsty Blogger, also one of the winners of the Top 10 Emerging most influential blogs for 2010.

While having a lively chat with other bloggers, dinner is served...
drinks were first served to the attending guests...

We took a bite of Angel Pizza's specialties...

the Angel's Deluxe - with Mushrooms, green pepper, ham and pepperoni

the Angel's Style pizza - with mushrooms and barbecue sauce

After food and drinks were served, Sir Jonel gave his 'thank you' speech and announced plans and schedules for his upcoming blog projects.

Sir Jonel announcing upcoming plans for his blog projects...

After the announcements, Sir Jonel gave away freebies to those who attended. I was able to get this pink loot bag from the raffle...

We were happy that we attended this social gathering. The first time we attended an internet-related event 2 years ago (not a bloggers' event), we felt left out / snobbed because it seemed the organizers of the event thought we were guests from the media, but turned out that we attended because we got tickets to their event from a raffle/contest.

After attending the Century Tuna bloggers' event, I realized that the bloggers who attended were generally sociable. Like the previous bloggers event, I am glad we were warmly received by Sir Jonel and the other bloggers who were present on this one.

We were not able to finish the whole event because it was getting late. Oh well, my gf and I were not able to be in a group photo. But we did have a great time! Thanks Sir Jonel of NomNom Club and Let's Go Sago for his generosity and hospitality. May you have more success with your upcoming blog projects. :)
