Ideaspositive - The Unilab Youth Camp For Change


Do you have a viral plan that can change the community for the better? Then why not join Ideaspositive, a contest sponsored by Unilab. The goal of this contest is to look for simple ideas that can touch and improve lives.

These good ideas can produce positive change in a community. Join this contest, and you and your team can win Php100,000 seed money from Unilab for the implementation of their community health project, plus an Ideas Positive Winners´ trophy for their school. The winning team also wins a 3-day, 2-night group vacation package to Boracay.

This contest is open to currently enrolled college students in Metro manila and nearby provices of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Pampanga. Students are required to form a group of at least 5 and a maximum of 7 members.

TO JOIN

1. The competition is open to currently enrolled college students in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Pampanga, forming a group of at least 5 and maximum of 7 members, including the plan presenters and implementers. Group composition can be interdisciplinary but must be limited to two different university programs or organizations.

2. Entries must present an idea for a plan to address a health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity for a community of your choice. Plans must be sustainable (not one-time), immediately actionable, and must be implementable with a Php100,000 seed money within a six-month period between October 2010 and May 2011.

3. To join, log on to www.ideaspositive.com and complete the 3-step application process:
1. Fill out the Entry Form
2. Upload your 6-page project plan
3. Upload your 3-minute video encapsulating the written plan
4. Deadline for the submission of entries (Entry Form, Project Plan and Video) is on August 16, 2010.


GUIDELINES

ENTRY FORM
To qualify, the online entry form must be completely filled out.
Any form of dishonesty or inaccuracy will automatically disqualify the entry.

PROJECT PLAN
Prepare your project plan according to the following
guidelines:

* Font: Arial, size 11, black
* Page specifications: A4-size, 1" margin on all sides
* Page count: maximum of 6 pages, 1.5 spacing
* A title page should serve as cover of the 6-page plan containing the entry´s project title and group name.
* The appendices (containing the Creatives, Timetable and Budget Breakdown) are excluded in the 6-page count.
* Compress and send as a PDF file, not exceeding 3 MB. The PDF converter can be downloaded here (just click).
* The project name and group name should not give any indication of the entrant´s school, e.g. colors or symbols associated with it.

VIDEO

* The video filename should bear (1) group´s name and (2) project title − in that specific order (e.g. Agents_of_Change − Bakuna_ para_sa_Kinabukasan).
* Video format should be .flv. The FLV converter can be downloaded here (just click).
* Video length must not exceed 3 minutes; file size must not exceed 3 MB; screen resolution at 320x240.

* Should third party video clips be used, sources should be acknowledged at the end of the video (failure to acknowledge third party videos will automatically disqualify the team´s entry).

* The video should answer the following questions:
1) What is the health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity in your chosen community?
2) How can your group address the health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity in that community with seed money of Php100,000?

* Submitted videos will be uploaded on the website within 24 hours of submission, after the website regulators have reviewed their adherence to the set parameters.

PARAMETERS

1. The need of the chosen community should fall under one of the following categories, including but not limited to:
1. Hygiene and Sanitation
2. Nutrition
3. Disease prevention and intervention
4. Environment Care and Protection
2. The project beneficiary of each entry should be a local community within Metro Manila, CAMANAVA, CALABARZON or GMA.
3. Project implementation should be achievable with a Php100,000 seed money.
4. Project implementation must take place between October 2010 to May 2011.

JUDGING
1. Five (5) group finalists will be chosen from the field of entries by a panel of screeners based on the following criteria:

70%
• Analysis and understanding of community need, problem, or opportunity
• Innovativeness and creativity of ideas
• Harnessing Bayanihan spirit in the community
• Feasibility

30%
• On-line votes

The website administrator will be uploading the entrant´s video within 24 hours after submission. Deadline for online video voting is on August 23, 2010.

Finalists will be announced on August 30, 2010 at www.ideaspositive.com and will receive letters of notification through their group´s faculty contact.

1. The Ideas Positive finalists will present and defend their project plans on September 25 (3rd day of the clinic) before a Board of Judges composed of multi-sectoral representatives including Unilab and Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Manila.

2. The finalists will be judged according to the following criteria:
1. Analysis and understanding of community need, problem or opportunity (20%)
2. Innovativeness and Effectiveness of Ideas (40%)
3. Sustainability (20%)
4. Presentation and Handling of Questions (20%)

IDEAS POSITIVE CLINIC
• Ideas Positive Workshop − September 23-24, 2010

Improve your social marketing, leadership, and project management skills in a two-day workshop by respected experts in community development, business, government, and health and wellness industry. Open to all currently enrolled college students.

• Competition − September 25, 2010

The two-day Ideas Positive workshop will culminate in an Awards Ceremony for Finalists of the Ideas Positive competition, during which Finalists present their final project plans and the Ideas Positive 2010 Winner will be chosen and awarded.

Both activities will be held at the Unilab Bayanihan Center, Mandaluyong

PRIZES

* The Grand Prize Winner wins a Php100,000 seed money from Unilab for the implementation of their community health project, plus an Ideas Positive Winners´ trophy for their school. The winning team also wins a 3-day, 2-night group vacation package to Boracay.
* 2nd and 3rd Prize Winners will each receive from Unilab seed money of P50,000 for their chosen communities, an Ideas Positive Winners´ trophy for their school, and an iPod shuffle for each member of the team.
* Each member of the finalists will receive an Ideas Positive medal and a special Unilab gift pack
